Carpathian Trophy: Romania dominates Slovakia, but Georgia takes overall title
Romania’s men’s national handball team defeated Slovakia 33–25 (17–10) on Sunday at the “Lascăr Pană” Sports Hall in Baia Mare, but Georgia claimed the Carpathian Trophy Niro title.
The Romanian team earned its second victory, yet finished second overall, since Georgia had won the head-to-head match between the two sides, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.
Romania dominated the game against Slovakia, with Călin Dedu as the top scorer, netting seven goals. Daniel Stanciuc and Tudor Botea each scored five, Ionuț Adrian Stănescu and Andrei Valeriu Drăgan four apiece, Ștefan-Gabriel Cumpănici three, Ionuț Nistor Ioniță two, and Sorin-Paul Grigore, Robert Nagy, and Andras Szasz each added one goal.
Goalkeepers Ionuț Ciprian Iancu made four saves, while Cătălin-Sebastian Haidu had eight.
For Slovakia, Martin Potisk led with seven goals, followed by Jakub Kravcak, Damian Mital, and Marek Jankovic with three each. Tomas Obulany and Jakub Feder scored two, and Sergej Petrycenko, Marko Jurkovic, Adam Dopjera, and Marek Stefina each added one.
Goalkeeper Christopher Bako recorded three saves, while Matus Mitosinka made six.
In the day’s other match, Georgia lost to Ukraine 32–28.
Georgia finished first with four points, followed by Romania (four points), Slovakia (two points), and Ukraine (two points).
