U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Vatican leader Pope Leo XIV and then shared an image depicting himself like Jesus Christ, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.

In a post on social media, Trump criticized Pope Leo XIV, claiming that the Pope is “weak on crime and nuclear weapons” and “terrible on foreign policy.” He argued that Leo was chosen as Pope only because he is American and to help the Church “deal with” him while he is in the White House.

Trump said the Pope should be grateful to him and added: “I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s okay for Iran to have nuclear weapons. I don’t want a Pope who thinks it’s terrible that America attacked Venezuela—a country sending large amounts of drugs to the U.S. and even emptying its prisons, including murderers and drug dealers, into our country. And I don’t want a Pope who criticizes the U.S. President for doing exactly what I was overwhelmingly elected to do.”

He continued:“Leo should get himself together as Pope, use common sense, stop catering to the radical left, and focus on being a great Pope instead of a politician.”

About an hour after these remarks, Trump shared an image portraying himself like Jesus Christ. In the image, he is shown among people praying to him and admiring him, appearing to heal a sick person.

Pope Leo XIV had earlier spoken at a prayer event in St. Peter’s Basilica on April 11, calling for an end to wars and displays of power. He warned about growing threats worldwide and said: “War divides, hope unites. Here we find a barrier against the growing delusion of omnipotence around us.”
