Germany’s Merz to skip semifinal vs Spain due to Macron visit

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz wants to attend the final of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 if Germany reaches the decisive match, which will take place in Switzerland, CE Report quotes ATA.

“If the women’s national team makes it to the final, the Chancellor plans to be there,” said government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius today.

“The Chancellor is a passionate supporter of this European Women’s Championship,” he added.

According to Kornelius, Merz would have liked to travel to Switzerland for the semifinal against Spain on Wednesday, but that will not be possible due to the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Berlin on the same day.

The final will take place on Sunday in Basel.
