Erdogan Backs Iran-Israel Ceasefire, Urges Peace

Politics

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed the newly declared ceasefire between Iran and Israel, expressing hope that both sides will honor the truce and respond positively to “my friend Trump’s call” for calm, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Speaking after a NATO summit in The Hague, Erdogan said Türkiye had been actively involved in diplomatic efforts since the start of the conflict, warning that the escalation posed “serious risks to the region.”

He criticized Israeli attacks in Gaza, calling the humanitarian crisis there “a catastrophe no person with a conscience can ignore,” and reiterated that diplomacy—not war—is the only path to lasting peace with Iran.

Erdogan also highlighted Türkiye’s continued commitment to regional stability and peace, including ongoing efforts to mediate in the Russia-Ukraine war. “A window of opportunity has opened for a ceasefire and lasting peace,” he said.

On defense matters, Erdogan underscored Türkiye’s push for greater NATO cooperation, including lifting barriers to defense trade and stronger anti-terrorism solidarity. He noted “positive developments” in talks with the UK and Germany on the Eurofighter program, and expressed optimism about resolving the F-35 dispute with the U.S.
