Ilie Bolojan Appointed Prime Minister of Romania
President Nicușor Dan appointed Ilie Bolojan, interim leader of the National Liberal Party (PNL), as Romania’s new prime minister on Friday, CE Report quotes Agerpres
The appointment followed consultations with parliamentary parties on Thursday. "I nominate Mr. Ilie Bolojan as prime minister. I thank the parties forming the majority for the discussions over the past weeks. A strong government supported by a solid majority is in Romania’s best interest," said the president.
Addressing concerns over the month-long negotiations, Dan noted that such timelines are common in established democracies and that key, sensitive issues were at stake.
He stressed the urgency of economic recovery and the need to address the country’s financial deficit. "The responsibility lies with the government and its supporting coalition. We must fix the deficit to build a strong foundation for Romania’s economic development," he said.
