A new free four-digit hotline, 1566, will launch by July 15 to assist citizens with any questions about Greece’s National Health System (NHS), Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced during a visit to the Health Ministry.

The PM highlighted the government’s progress in healthcare, including the completion of Recovery Fund programs, better management of medical costs, and the introduction of digital tools like the online patient file, a pioneering system in Europe, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

He also noted improvements in hospital wait times, surgical backlogs, and praised the 2.5 million citizens who participated in preventative screenings. Many lives were saved through early detection, he said, urging the public not to ignore health alerts.

Mental health services—especially for children and teens—have also improved, with greater awareness and support through the NHS.

While acknowledging ongoing challenges, Mitsotakis said the progress made so far is “undeniably significant.”
