
Greek Minister Warns of Seismic Risks in Santorini, Announces Emergency Measures
Greek Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vasilis Kikilias, addressed concerns over recent seismic activity in Santorini during an interview with ANT1 TV. He emphasized that while scientists cannot predict earthquakes with certainty, the state must take all necessary precautions to protect citizens, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian
Kikilias warned of the potential for a larger earthquake in the region, which could cause significant damage or even a tsunami. He urged residents to evacuate coastal areas immediately in case of a major quake.
As part of emergency preparedness, the minister announced plans for an escape port in a secure location on the island, in addition to the new port already planned for Santorini. The escape port will provide a docking point for passenger ships in case of crisis.
