Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CBBH), Dr. Jasmina Selimović, participated in the Istanbul Economic Forum on October 8, 2026.

The Governor took part in a panel titled “Artificial Intelligence and the Global Economy: Opportunities and Risks,” which examined the potential applications of artificial intelligence in enhancing the analytical capacities of central banks, the effectiveness of monetary policy transmission, and payment system oversight.

Particular attention was given to whether central banks are adapting their operations to technological changes quickly enough, as well as the need to establish an appropriate regulatory framework for artificial intelligence and new financial technologies, CE Report quotes FENA.

“The Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina recognizes the significant potential of artificial intelligence to improve the analysis of economic and financial data, risk assessment, payment system oversight, and the efficiency of internal processes. At the same time, its application must be responsible, transparent, and secure, with data protection and clearly defined human accountability. Artificial intelligence should support experts and institutions in making better-informed decisions, rather than replace human knowledge, experience, and judgment,” Governor Selimović stated.

The panel was moderated by Hatice Karahan, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye. In addition to Governor Selimović, participants included Eddie Yue, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, and Nodirbek Achilov, Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During her visit to Istanbul, Governor Selimović also held bilateral meetings with the governors of the central banks of Türkiye, Greece, and France. The meetings provided an opportunity to exchange views on current economic and financial developments, the challenges facing central banks, and opportunities to strengthen inter-institutional cooperation and the exchange of professional expertise.

The Istanbul Economic Forum was opened by Türkiye’s Minister of Treasury and Finance and brought together central bank governors from numerous countries, including the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Kosovo, Uzbekistan, Hungary, the United States, and Azerbaijan, among others.
