Türkiye destroys 217,000 cannabis plants

Gendarmerie forces in Diyarbakir, Southeastern Türkiye, have destroyed 217,608 cannabis plants, from which five tonnes of powdered marijuana could have been produced, the Turkish Interior Ministry said.

A total of 570 gendarmerie personnel from 64 response units took part in the operation, CE Report quotes BTA.

"We are continuing our determined fight against street dealers, drug producers and the illegal cultivation of plants containing such substances," the Interior Ministry said.

The cannabis plantations were identified across 99 cultivated plots using drone surveillance. In addition to the plants destroyed, 15 kilograms of marijuana ready for use were seized. The operations were carried out with the assistance of police dogs.
