Italy’s workforce expands, unemployment falls

On average 23.932 million people were in employment in Italy in 2024, an increase of 352,000, or 1.5%, with respect to the previous year, Istat said.

The National Statistics Agency said the rise was down to a decrease in the number of unemployed people of 283,000, -14.6%, and an increase in the number of inactive persons aged 15-64 of 56,000, +0.5%, CE Report quotes ANSA.

It said the employment rate for 15-64-year-olds rose 0.7 of a percentage point to 62.2% last year, while the unemployment rate fell 1.1 points to 6.5% and the inactivity rate went up 0.1 of a point to 33.4%.
