Netanyahu-Trump Ceasefire Talks
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu departed Tel Aviv on Sunday for Washington to meet US President Donald Trump, focusing on a potential Gaza ceasefire and hostage exchange, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency
This marks Netanyahu’s third US visit in six months. Ahead of the trip, he said he hopes the meeting with Trump will help advance negotiations and confirmed that an Israeli team had been sent to Doha for indirect talks with Hamas.
Netanyahu outlined three key goals: returning hostages, dismantling Hamas's military capabilities, and ensuring Gaza no longer threatens Israel. He also plans to thank Trump for his “unwavering support,” particularly against Iran.
The latest ceasefire proposal reportedly includes a 60-day phased release of Israeli hostages and remains, in exchange for Palestinian detainees and partial Israeli troop withdrawal. Hamas demands UN oversight of aid and guarantees against renewed fighting—terms Israel opposes.
Despite diplomatic efforts, Israel’s ongoing war in Gaza has killed over 57,400 Palestinians since October 2023. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and his former defense minister, and Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
