Citizens Rate Public Services
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Wednesday highlighted the results of two key evaluations—citizen feedback on public services and internal civil servant performance assessments—in a briefing at the Maximos Mansion, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian
For the first time, 65,000 citizens participated in a nationwide survey rating government services. “It’s a mirror of reality as experienced by the people,” Mitsotakis said, noting consistent feedback across regions but also area-specific issues like poor island road infrastructure.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of data-driven governance: “Measurement and evaluation are at the heart of building a modern state.” He contrasted past practices—where nearly all civil servants were rated “excellent”—with today’s more rigorous standards linked to specific roles and goals.
He also announced the introduction of performance-based bonuses, backed by a €40 million fund, and pledged to expand citizen evaluations, particularly in frontline sectors like healthcare. “The goal is not punishment, but continuous improvement,” he concluded.
