Greece Supports EU's Defence Investment Initiative

Greece welcomes European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s proposal to activate the escape clause for defence investments, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced on Friday, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

In a post on X, Mitsotakis emphasized Greece’s longstanding support for exempting defence spending from fiscal constraints, calling the proposal a “crucial step for our collective security.”

Von der Leyen had earlier stated that Europe needs a surge in defence spending and pledged to propose the escape clause, allowing EU member states to boost their military budgets in a controlled and conditional manner.
